New 2013 3 Series Styling, as controversial as the e90's?

From the creation of the 3 series all the way up to 2006 bmw had a very boxy body style. It was simple, with clean lines, and a mean look of aggression in the headlights. Frankly the last 3 series(2000-2006) is what really blew BMW up into a household car manufacture, as well as the series before that from the 1990's but this new body style and the one planned for 2013... well lets just say they were a divergence from what was previously characterized as BMW's signature.

2005 Geneva car show, the first place the 2007-present e90 series started, people loved the new innovation in power, chassis, safety, drivability, and all around effectiveness, the biggest problem though was the styling. Proportions seem to be the same from pretty much every single BMW generation, take into account i say proportions, not so much styling. BMW went for a softer look, a more "refined look" now some people like this but some people dont which is understandable but the look of an e40 3 series to an e90 3 series... it is obvious how much more curvaceous the e90 got. I absolutely love the small e40 3 series, they are beautiful, they look sporty and they handle very nicely as well, no doubt there that the new e90's also handle very well but they have gotten bigger, this much is obvious.Who can we thank for this, well his name is Chris Bangle, and he was introduced into all of this right around the time of this 2005 introduction to the new 3 series. Bangle is most known for this work on the huge 7 series, from 2002-2008, now if you read car and driver this car is rated as one of the worst cars of all time simply because of its styling and interface system, now if you cant see a problem there then something is going on.

Further more i am not saying the new 3 series is that bad, i mean ive seen enough in person for it to grow on me and ive seen old ones against new ones and they do look more posh and expensive but not as sporty as they use to be. Finally moving on to the 2013 3 series, i see a huge problem. Over the years 3 series seem to be getting bigger and bigger, now there is a mini 5 series.
this angle may seem skewed but it is a shot of the car in the wild with no camo on. If you compare this with the current 5 series its a little mini me of the 5 series disguised as a 3 series, they have a squared round front end which was introduced on the new 5 series, and the hood is absolutely huge, this is no longer a small sports sedan its just a mini executive car. I can see the reference to the old 3 series with more boxy front end but at the same time it will never be as good looking as the e40 series. To me, at least, this new design doesn't look sporty at all, these differences may not even be noticeable by you guys but they are to me and they are pretty big changes to... again,to me at least. These cars also(rumored)will have a inline 4 turbo engine, and yet again we are going back to the turbos. I am slowly loosing my love for BMW, they are moving away from what got them big. Mind you though this does not include M, no matter what the cars look like we will always know M will deliver when they see fit, i just hope they can pull it off on this new mini me 5 series. Thanks for reading.
